Hello Kathrine.

There is a possibility that some third party program installed on the computer is causing the issue. You may try launching CorelDRAW after placing the computer in the clean boot state.

To manually start Windows XP with a clean boot, follow these steps:

Step 1: Start the System Configuration Utility:

1. Click Start, click Run, type msconfig, and then click OK.

2. The System Configuration Utility dialog box is displayed.

Step 2: Configure selective startup options:

1. In the System Configuration Utility dialog box, click the General tab, and then click Selective Startup.

2. Click to clear the Process SYSTEM.INI File check box.

3. Click to clear the Process WIN.INI File check box.

4. Click to clear the Load Startup Items check box. Verify that Load System Services and Use Original BOOT.INI are checked.

5. Click the Services tab.

6. Click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box.

7. Click Disable All, and then click OK.

8. When you are prompted, click Restart to restart the computer.

Step 3: Log on to Windows:

1. If you are prompted, log on to Windows.

2. When you receive a message, click to select the Don't show this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows start check box, and then click OK.

You can download and install CorelDraw Graphics Suite X6. Watch this video for a tutorial:

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Gothman Paul

Before installing an application, you should always check if your computer meets all the requirements to run the program. CorelDraw Graphics Suite X5 supports Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 both 32-bit and 64-bit. It requires Intel Pentium 4 or faster processor, 512 MB RAM, 750 MB free hard drive space, 1024 x 768 screen resolution, and DVD drive.

Since you are using Microsoft Windows XP and you have 1 GB RAM then there should be no problem. Actually, the error “The exception unknown software exception (0xc0000417) occurred in the application at location 0x7858c955” can happen on any application not only with CorelDraw. The error only differs on the last set of numbers at the end of the message but “0xc0000417” is pretty common.

I know both sets of numbers are pointing to particular locations in the memory because I also had it once which constantly appears on a game I’m playing and it only appears when I go to a particular spot on the map and other areas are fine. In my case, the problem started happening after I install a new memory module on my CPU.

I returned the memory module I purchased to the store where I purchased it and asked for a replacement and they agree to replace it. After that the game is back to normal. In your case, if you upgraded the memory on your CPU, try using the previous one and see the difference.

On the other hand, if you haven’t done any memory upgrade, your best shot is to reinstall the program because none of the users who encountered it received a working solution. You should also try updating your video card’s driver.
