Hi rachel,

Both the T568A and T568B standard specifies a particular pattern for arranging the wires within the RJ plug. The wiring arrangements are listed below.

T568A (the first end of the cable into RJ plug)
wires                               Pin number on the jack
——-                              ———————–
white/blue                             5
blue/white                             4
white/orange                         3
orange/white                         6
white/green                           1
green/white                           2
white/brown                          7
brown/white                         8
T568B (the second end of the cable into RJ plug)
wires                                  Pin number on the jack
—–                                   ———————-
white/blue                           5
blue/white                           4
white/orange                        1
orange/white                       2
white/green                         3
green/white                          6
white/brown                        7
brown/white                         8
Please make sure after entering the wires into RJ plug of one end press the RJ plug with crimping tool.

Hi Rachel

It is quite simple to get mixed up and always be sure that when inserting the cable into the jr45 plug that the clip part of it is facing down that way pin one will always be on the left.
Also make sure the wires are cut straight and go all the way in.

Attached is a file with the colour code for the RJ45 connectors (TIA/EIA 568A and TIA/EIA 568B)

Hello Dear,

There are two types of cables used in networking.

Cross cable

Straight cable

If you are linking two same devices with one another then you have to use cross cable. Configuration of cross cable is as below.

=========>      First end of cable    <==================

1. White orange

2. Orange

3. White green

4. Blue

5.  White blue

6. Green

7. White brown

8. Brown

========>  Second end of cable    <=================

1. White green

2. Green

3. White orange

4. Blue

5. White Blue

6. Orange

7. White brown

8. Brown

But if you are going to link two different devices then you have to use straight cable.

=========>      Both end of cable    <==================

1. White orange

2. Orange

3. White green

4. Blue

5.  White blue

6. Green

7. White brown

8. Brown

Thanks
