Computer won’t power up but lights go on

When I turn on my computer, the fans spin for just an instant, and the front panel LED and the LED on the main board remain lit, but the unit won't turn on. It had been running fine one night, and the next day it was like this. I replaced the small battery on the main board but that didn't help. Could it be the power supply?

Many people suffer the problem of starting the computer and shutting down after a few seconds. Although the Front Panel and Motherboard’s LED are still on, but it always shuts down after a few moments. Most of the time it happens because of Power supply is overload. If there is any extra internal or external device, attached to the computer which drains much power from the power supply on starting up the PC – shutdown happens. So, removing these power hungry devices can help the computer starts normally. In some cases, Power supply is damaged or has some fault which is causing the computer shutting down abnormally.

It is a good idea to change the Power supply and Install a more powerful power supply which can handle power distribution swiftly. If there is still a problem of shutting down then check the RAM or Motherboard. Sometimes RAM or Motherboard has an internal fault which automatically shuts down the PC after starting. Lastly, check the power button. It sometimes gets stuck, and that causes the shutdown after few seconds. Replace it if possible or change the computers casing with new power button.

Hi Rocker,

This problem has Motherboard problem or power supply problem. You may try to turn on that other electronic line. If it is remaining same problem then you can open the casing of your CPU and replace the RAM processor again.

Motherboard setting has some problems if your PC won't turn on. First check the operator of the Motherboard system. If the screen is alright then must have this problem. Before repairing check the monitor.

Plug in another PC to connector. You already said that small battery would replace. But it did not work. So this is not solution for it. It occurs for main board or monitor and RAM. The symptoms of your computer will for that.
