Computer not responding on mouse click

My computer is having a problem for some time now. I have to click the mouse so many times before there is a response. I don’t know if the problem is caused by the mouse. I am thinking that the computer itself has a problem. Maybe its Operating System has developed a problem. Maybe there is a virus infection or the problem is caused by a program that I installed. What can you advise me please?

Hi,

The problem with your computer not responding to the mouse click could be with the settings. May be some of the settings are incorrect. Check with you ISP's provider that the settings you have are correct. Check even with their technical support to see weather they have the information.

Another issue could be to do with some programs. To check if this is the issue then run your virus to see if there is a malware interfering with your computer to mouse response.

Hello John,

First try changing the mouse network cable in the USB ports and see what the response is. Maybe the USB port that it is connected to is faulty and thus causing the problem that you are having.

Restart the computer and see if it becomes normal; may be it is freezing due to executing many programs at the same time. Try another mouse if you have it and see the response.

If all the above solutions do not work, then the problem could be possibly due to a virus infection or system restore, and to remove this you have to use the system restore utility to restore the computer to  a state before the problem started.

If you think your computer is infected with a virus, update your antivirus then perform a full system scan. If this doesn’t work and the antivirus is no longer working, another way is to use a virus removal tool. Download Sophos Virus Removal Tool. Once installed, start Sophos then wait for the virus signature database to get updated. When updating is complete, click to start scanning your computer.

Sophos scans everything on your computer including devices connected via USB port. When a virus is found at the end of the scan, remove it then repeat the scan over and over until it no longer detects a virus. Don’t disable your antivirus when using the tool. Sophos works alongside any antivirus program you may have.

Note: this is not an antivirus so don’t use it as replacement for your antivirus. It is just a tool to remove hard-to-detect viruses. It doesn’t have real-time protection like what antivirus programs provide. This tool will automatically stop working when it reaches the end of its usability period. If you want to continue using it, you have to download the program again.

Once the system is clean, use the System File Checker utility to fix any corrupt system files damaged by the virus. Press the Windows key + R to bring up the “Run” dialog then type without quotes “sfc /scannow” then hit Enter. Insert your Windows installation CD or DVD when you are prompted then continue. Wait until the process is complete. When it is finished, restart the computer.
