I have been using Windows Vista Ultimate operating System, and I have installed MS Office Professional Plus 2010.
While trying to activate the application, I encounter the activation error as given below.
The error states that "A communication error has occurred.
Please verify the connectivity to the internet and try again. (0x80072EE2)".
I am unable to proceed any further.
Seeking your assistance for a quick fix.

To fix that issue, you will need to use the following steps.

First you will need to start Windows Installer Services using the following procedure:

  • You will need to click Start on your computer and then type services.msc and press ENTER.
  • After that you will have to find Windows Installer from the list of services and ensure that it has been set to Manual.
  • Next you will click on Start to start Installer services.

After that you will follow the steps below:

  • Go to C:/Config.Msi, and then right click and choose Properties.
  • After that you will need to uncheck Read Only.
  • Then you will run the Office as an Administrator.
  • You should not get the error after that.

1. Click Start then type "cmd".
2. Right-click the Command Prompt icon then click "Run as administrator".
3. Type the command as displayed below then press Enter.
Here you will see in the list the last 5 characters of your product key like "H3GVB".
4. You will need to remove these 5 characters by typing the command below then press Enter.
You may now try to re-launch Office Professional Plus 2010 and re-enter the full product key.
