My CD/DVD drive cannot read the disk I inserted.  I don't frequently use the drive  and I don't know why it's not working now.

Can you check if the disk is clean? Â If the disk has a fingerprint, dust or dirt on the surface, gently blow any large dust or dirt particles off first. Then use a damp, clean, lint-free, soft cloth and gently wipe the disk in a straight line from the inside center hole to the outside edge. Â Please do not use any household cleaners, which can be too harsh and may damage the disk.
Let me know if this did the trick.
I've tried cleaning the disk as per your instructions but it is still not reading it. I also checked for scratches/ chips and found none. Is there anything else that I should try?

It turned out to be a broken disk! I used the MS Works installer disk that came with the computer just to check and it read it flawlessly! Â Glad to know the drive is working.
I'll keep your tip handy on cleaning my optical drive so I won't have to worry this much in the future.Â
