Hello! My CD-ROM stopped reading data on any CD/DVD that I make and any other. I usually burn disks with Nero and it is ok, also it has no problems with erasing all data from disks, but when I try to check files on disk it says 0 files, but DVD player has no problems with it. Same thing happens to any other disk, not made by me. Please assist, thank you in advance.

There are several problems that might be going on with your CD-Rom. First of all, the drive might be dirty. Try cleaning it with a CD-Rom cleaning product that can be purchased at your local electronics retailer, such as Best Buy. Also, try cleaning the CD-Rom tray with a cloth dampened with water.

Also, try checking your device manager. To do this, open your Control Panel. Then double-click the System icon. Then click on Hardware, followed by Device Manager. Make sure there are no exclamation points or red X's showing in the Device Manager for the CD-Rom. If there is, you will need to remove the device by highlighting it, and then deleting in. Then you will need to completely reinstall the CD-Rom drive by rebooting your computer.

Another possibility is that there is a corruption in Windows itself. If you run Windows in Safe Mode, and the CD-Rom drive works, there might be an issue with other programs. If that is the case, try removing and reinstalling the CD-Rom drive per instructions for checking the device manager.

If none of the above work, try booting your computer from the Windows disc. If it can do so, there is a problem with the Windows driver, and you will need to try the above solutions again.

Also, try checking to see if the cables are correctly connected to your CD-Rom drive.

If nothing above works, you will probably need to completely replace the drive.

Please remove all the security software you use to hide or  lock the partition. If you do not want to uninstall them, then check on them that you have also locked or hide the CD-ROM drive. Same problem with me i used partition locker I locked the CD drive and when I insert the drive there was no data. Then I remove partition locker it worked good for me.
