BBC confirmed the 3D transmission for the World Olympics but they will include only: The Opening Ceremony, The Closing Ceremony, The men's 100m final and highlights package at the end of each contest day. The 3D broadcast will be available on the BBC HD channel for anyone who owns a 3D TV, regardless of the digital provider they use. This is one of the 3D TV experiments that BBC is undertaking.

The technology will use the latest Panasonic 3D cameras, but IOC and OBS will also collaborate with BBC. OBS will be in charge of producing more than 200 hours of 3D recording during the Olympics using Panasonic's state-of-art 3D production technologies such as: AG-3DP1 or P2HD cameras.
