I am trying to log on to my windows Vista laptop but I am getting an error like this:

The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.

This is my own personal computer, and I am the only one uses this and installed a password for my windows account. But I don’t have any Administrator password. Just the password on logging in to my windows. I tried a System Restore, but it doesn’t help. I tried to boot in to Safe Mode, and it works but I don’t know what to do next. Please help me.

If you can boot on safe mode or have made another account with administrative privileges please follow the procedures below. But please remember that editing your registry or modifying it incorrectly may cause serious problems to your computer. So I will suggest that you make a back up of all your important files and data’s or make a restore point that you can go back anytime when a serious problem occur. For added protection, please backup your registry too.

A. To delete your profile by using Computer Properties, follow this:

  1. Click on Start, then right-click Computer then go to Properties.
  2. Click Change Settings.
  3. Click the Advanced Tab under System Properties.
  4. On User Profiles, Click the Settings.
  5. Click or select the profile that you want to delete in the User Profiles Dialog Box.
  6. Click Delete and then OK.
B. Open the command prompt by clicking on Start then Run.

C. Type regedit on the box.

D. Expand and follow this on the registry sub key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsNTCurrentVersionProfileListLog-on and create a new profile. Log-on and create a new profile.

E. Right-click the SID that you intend to remove then click Delete.

F. Log-on and create a new profile.
