Why Canon EOS software and Mac OS lion were unable to run properly, is there any chance now that Canon has issued an updated to the tool?

Dear,
I checked there is a problem with EOS on Windows 7. Please try a patch given on the below website and run again the EOS.

If the problem still persists unplug the printer from your computer and try again.
Problem in Mac OS Lion might have occurred due to the outdated Java Runtime. Please update and proceed.

I think you will be happy for this, Late January canon released an update that should allow it to work properly with OS X Lion. You can download the said update from EOS Utility download page. Note that this is not a standalone utility released, it’s just an update. The EOS Utility supports the following model: EOS REBEL T-Series, X-Series and D-Series.
