Cannot install XBOX Controller on Windows OS

I bought a brand new wired Xbox 360 wired controller to use on my computer. I am using Windows 7 Home Premium. After installing the drivers, the controller was not working. I tried plugging it into other USB ports on my computer, but no luck. Sometimes I get a green light flickering on the controller, but only for a few seconds. I tried the controller on my Xbox, and it works fine. What could be the problem then?

If you installed the driver that came with the controller, I guess you should check if it is the right driver for your operating system. The driver for the Xbox 360 controller is available as 32-bit and 64-bit versions. Though it is allowed to install 32-bit applications on 64-bit Microsoft Windows, in case you have 64-bit Microsoft Windows 7, it’s a different case when installing drivers though it comes in executable files.

If you have 32-bit Microsoft Windows 7, you need to install the 32-bit version of the installer. Likewise, when you have 64-bit Microsoft Windows 7, you should install the 64-bit version of the installer. To properly install the driver for your Xbox 360 controller, download the driver again from Xbox 360 Controller for Windows.

Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 are supported. Download the appropriate version for your operating system. Also, to learn more about the controller, you can also download the Product Guide PDF.
