I have a HP slate tablet running on Android KitKat. I bought the tablet from a friend and now I cannot remove his Google account so that I can use mine. I have tried manually deleting in accounts but it does not work. Recently a friend told me that a factory reset would help. Is that true? How can I do a factory reset?

One method is to remove by deleting account directly. For this, go into 'Setting' 'Accounts' then touch the account you want to 'remove' and delete or touch 'remove account' in the menu.

If it won't work, then reset your tablet by going into 'Setting'  'Backup & Reset' and select 'Restore factory setting' option.

Note: Doing 2nd procedure will erase all your data from a tablet. Backup your data or save it on some external drive.

If you want to remove your friend’s Google account since it is the primary Google account on the device, there is no other way of removing the primary Google account but to factory reset your Android device. If you want to do this, you need to backup all your important data because everything on the device will be deleted.

You can follow the steps in the post above to factory reset your tablet. After resetting your device, you can now enter your own Google account and it will now be the primary Google account of the device that will be used in the Google Play store. But if you don’t want to factory reset your device, you can change the Google account by adding your own Google account.

Go to Settings then scroll down to the bottom of the list then select Add Account. In the “Add a Google Account” screen, since you want to use your own Google ID, select New, and then sign in to your Google account. After that, just select which data you want to sync with your Android device. See image.
