I am seeking help to know about the possibility of accessing remotely Windows XP Professional from Mac by using Remote Desktop Connection. I have already tried and connected one account. Can I connect multiple accounts in this way? I am looking for inputs regarding this matter. I am administering Windows Server 2003 and I am setting up a Windows XP Professional for the compatibility of some applications and there are 5 users who want to access this system.
Can my MAC establish a Remote Desktop Connection with XP Computers
Mac has a built in VNC server. What you will need to do is go into System Preferences, and then choose Sharing. After that you will need to click on the 'Apple Remote Desktop' listing, and then you will click 'Access Privileges' . Once you click that, a sheet that lets you turn on VNC and specify a password will be opened.
You will need a VNC client, and I will suggest that you use Chicken of the VNC which is for Mac OS machines, or you can try RealVNC or TightVNC if you intend to use them on Windows.
The other thing you will need to know is the machine's IP address, and in case you have got a router, you will need to ensure that is able to forward the ports 3283 and 5900 to your internal machine.
In case you are using a dynamic IP address on the computer, you will either need to look up your 'external IP' address, or you can use a service that will help maps a domain name to your changing IP address.
