I have a new MacBook Pro and I want my videos to be compressed. Can Mac compress a video file using iMovie HD in Mac OS X v10.4 so I can put it on my web page?

To compress a video file:

  1. Start iMovie HD.
  2. From the File drop-down list, select New….
  3. In the Project: text box, type a name for your project.
  4. From the Where: drop-down list, select where to save the file.
  5. Click the Create button.
  6. From the File drop-down list, select Import….
  7. Navigate to and select the video file you want to compress.
  8. Click the Open button.
  9. From the File drop-down list, select Export….
  10. Click the QuickTime icon.
  11. From the Compress movie for: drop-down list, select Email or Web.

    Notes:
    • The Email option outputs the smallest file size but retains only fair to poor video quality.
    • The Web option outputs a slightly larger file size and retains good to fair video quality.
  12. Click the Share button.
  13. Click the Save button.
