To compress a video file:

  1. Start iMovie HD.
  2. From the File drop-down list, select New….
  3. In the Project: text box, type a name for your project.
  4. From the Where: drop-down list, select where to save the file.
  5. Click the Create button.
  6. From the File drop-down list, select Import….
  7. Navigate to and select the video file you want to compress.
  8. Click the Open button.
  9. From the File drop-down list, select Export….
  10. Click the QuickTime icon.
  11. From the Compress movie for: drop-down list, select Email or Web.

    • The Email option outputs the smallest file size but retains only fair to poor video quality.
