Hello,

I have an all in one printer, Brother MFC-240C and it just stopped printing without any warning. The LCD displays. "Clean Unable 46. ″ It suggests to read the troubleshooting manual which was not very helpful.

I cleaned the machine but it did not help. Is there anything else I can try?

Thanks.

I think the problem might be the ink waste pads were full so the only solution is to reset the purge counter. In order to that just follows this steps listed below.

1. First turn off the printer.

2. Switch on the machine while holding down the “menu” button until all the LED’s are flashing on/off.

3. Now you are in “maintenance” mode.

4. Press 8 then SET/OK.

5. Press 0 then SET/OK.

6. Press “MONO START” just press it until the word “PURGEXXXX” comes out.

7. Using arrow up button look for the following :

a. Press 2 then SET/OK.

b. Press 7 then SET/OK.

c. Press 8 then SET/OK.

d. Press 3 then SET/OK.

e. When “PURGE00000” appears press STOP/EXIT.

8. Using arrow up button look for the following:

a. Press 0 then SET/OK.

b. Press 1 then SET/OK (to reset unit).

c. Press 9 then SET/OK.

d. Press 9 then SET/OK (To exit maintenance mode).

And you are done.

If you receive this error, try this method to reset the purge counter. This method worked on Brother printer model MFC240C. To reset the purge counter, you need to enter the machine in maintenance mode. When your machine is in maintenance mode, you see lights flashes. Take note: you need to be very careful when in maintenance mode because critical settings might be accidentally corrupted.

To enter the maintenance mode, for FAX model printers with numerical keypads, press “Menu/Set”, *, 2, 8, 6, and 4 keys within two seconds. If you failed to complete the correct sequence within two seconds, press the “Stop” key and try again. For non-FAX models, press “Menu/Set” and then “Black Start” keys. After this, press the up arrow key four times to enter the maintenance mode.

Press 8 then 0 in the initial stage of the maintenance mode to call up the machine’s log information list (function code 80). Next, press the “Black Start” key to scroll down the log information list and reach the purge counter. The 25th item on the list is the purge counter.

Now, press 2, 7, 8, and 3 keys in the right sequence to reset the purge counter back to zero. After this, press the “Stop/Exit” key to go back to the initial stage of the maintenance mode. Now, press the 9 key twice to return to the standby mode. See if this works.
