I had a pen drive and my brother borrowed it. He told me that he accidentally deleted the attorney. info inside the drive. When he tried to open it again, error message saying , "G: Application not found.".

Is there any way we can download the autorun. Inf? And by the way, can I still retrieve my important files inside that drive?

I am confused with this issue. The AUTORUN.INF has been deleted by your brother but you were able to open it. By the way, AUTORUN.INF just contains initialization files which are used to run or execute when you plug-in your Pen Drive into the USB port.

It is safe to delete the AUTORUN.INF; actually it was used by MALWARES to run the code of the virus. There are some instances that a pen drive uses AUTORUN.INF, if the pen drive itself contains built-in USB tools from the manufacturer. If this is your case and you want to restore the AUTORUN.INF, it would be better to find on the support site of your pen drive manufacturer for the software.

Assuming that you still have the AUTORUN.INF in your pen drive, you may open it in a text editor to see what the file did to the AUTORUN.INF during plug-in of your pen drive. That file or application was the one missing, that is why, it says “Application not found” because the AUTORUN.INF is looking for the file or application to be executed.

After opening the AUTORUN.INF in your text, edit and identify the real file that is being executed by the AUTORUN.INF, browse your folders in the pen drive and look for the applications. Sometimes, applications are hidden. That is why, you will see nothing. Try to show the hidden files by changing the settings of your windows browser. Doing this will help you identify the problem. There are some instances that the file might be moved from one folder to another location. Be sure that the path specified in the AUTORUN.INF is the same with the path where the application is located. If in case that file you are looking for is not there, it’s time to go to the support site of your Pen Drive to download the file.

Jed Morales,

Good day!

Does the 'G:Application not found' always appear? If you can't access your data, I suggest a couple of things here. I hope everything will be back to normal.
  • You should backup your data.
Why? It's for safety. If you can't or you don't have any hard drive you still can mount your Files, save it to CD/DVD. The choice is still yours. If you're not afraid to do anything just for the sake of your gadget, then let's make it back to regular drive.
Remove the connection. Go insert actual hard disk then check if it's back to normal.

I hope you can access now.

Sometimes, it's also better if you look for help in the Computer Repair shop just to check if your gadget is still okay.

Regarding with the Autorun.inf, if you want to download it, you can do so

I hope everything's fine now.

You don't need to download autorun.inf file to solve this problem. You just need to open your "My Computer in folders mode" or "press start+E", then open your pen drive, from the left side, you click the pen drive or for you, (G:). I think you will be able to open it.

Copy all of your important files in the hard drive and then format your pen drive. Your pen drive will be normal again.

Good Day!

Yes, you can retrieve your files from the the USB drive. You have to go to the USB drive icon in my computer and right click the drive. A menu will appear with some options where you will find “Open” and “Explore”. You can use any option from the both given options. Now, you can see your data in the USB drive if it is not in the hidden mode. Then, you can retrieve, copy, cut and paste anywhere in your permanent storage device.

The autorun.ini file is actually a configuration file and INI stands for initialization, usually used when there are some requirements to run any specific application on USB drive plugged in. It is a simple text file with the .ini extension. If you know which file was loaded when you plugged in the USB previously before the deletion of autorun.ini, then you can build your own .ini file.

You have to check which executable file run previously or the one you want to run or plug in the USB device, then replace the “example” with that name. Now, save the file with the extension .ini. You have done it all.
