Dear experts, we would like to be informed on how I can alter the configuration on my computer which uses Windows Xp operating system so that it functions with roaming file. My company has some customers using our Xp. Surprisingly, some of them are capable of using the roaming file from our server but others are not capable of doing so.The server we own is server 2008. I decided to check up on the profile of those who can access roaming file and I found that they use local stashed profile. I highly need your assistance since I cannot even select the domain profile because it has been deactivated; this hasn’t been possible even after searching and working on the advanced computer settings.

Have you tried cloning the user account profile to see it if works? Â Do the users belong to the same user group and do they have the same policy limits and the same access rights? This is most likely just a user account configuration issue, if you can mirror the user account of those customers that have a working account, those who don't have a working account should be able to get theirs to work as well. Also try creating a user profile from scratch and see if there are no problems with that user profile. Make sure all of the users who need to be able to have a roaming user profile have the proper rights granted to their account.

In case you need the users on your network to roam between computers that are running Windows XP, then you will need to use the Folder Redirection (FR) tools, and for it to work, you will have to ensure that the Offline Files (OF) have been enabled to redirect Documents and other folders where the users store work-related data.
When you have done that, users to access the data from computers running on the windows XP operating system. But you should be aware that you will not be able to roam user settings, for the user settings resides in both the AppDataRoaming folder and in the Ntuser.dat file which is ate the HKCU registry hive in the root of the user’s profile.
