Hello Marie,

This issue is commonly faced by users who have tried installing Adobe Reader on Windows and have changed the default location of My Documents folder.

This change in location of My Documents folder prevents the Adobe Reader installer from continuing further and to report an error.

The solution is simple –

  1. Simply revert the path to the location of My Documents to original defaults, the default path is generally like "C:Documents and Settings<Username>My Documents"
  2. Start complete Adobe reader installation. It should complete with no errors.
  3. Change the path to the location of My Documents to your preferred directory.

Hope this information helps you install Adobe reader.

Regards,

This problem occurs, for changing the default location of the My Documents folder the error can appear preventing the installing form continuing as the setup does not process the entire file path of the My Documents location.

For example, see the below screenshot that the user changed the default location of My Document from “C:Documents & Settings(Username)My Documents” to “E:Documents”. This provides us the fault above that “Documents Is Not A Valid Short File Name.” If you had reformed the default location to “E:Files” then the error “Files Is Not A Valid Short File Name” will be performed. To permit Adobe Reader to fix you can simply restore the My Documents folder to its original location & change back after the installation has completed.

For solving this problem follow these steps:

1. First of all Right Click on “My Documents>>Target Folder Location> Restore Default.

2. When appearing a prompt asking you to move all of your files click No.

3. Run the Adobe Reader installer as well as installation should complete successfully.

3. Now Right click My Documents & change the “Target Folder Location”.

4. Then click No button if the move files prompt appears again.
