When I am trying to run Microsoft Update or manage the Windows Firewall, I am encountering windows update error 80070424 on Windows versions from XP through 8.1. Please tell me about this error.

Symptoms

Windows displays an error 0x80070424 when you try to update or change Firewall settings or apply Updates.error

Cause

Problem with the Windows Modules Installer Service or the TrustedInstaller.exe binary.

Resolution

First, attempt to simply restart the Windows Modules Installer Service.

WIN+R, services.msc [enter].

Scroll down to the Windows Modules Installer Service.

Ensure the service is not set to Disabled. It should be set to Manual.

Start the service.

Try running Windows Update again.
