We all know that it is going to be the world of Robots in the future. All the works, jobs, devices, etc. are to be replaced with the Robots. Any machine that listens to us and gives result according to it is a Robot. But all the Robots are electronic gadgets and are made up of interlinking wires, hardware components, etc. which makes it look very complicated. To make the machine more users friendly they are being covered with the skin. And for the Robots that look alike the humans also they are using the skin and there are some important purposes for using this skin.
To cover the machine’s or human body’s entire surface or a part of it, a skin which is embedded with the capabilities of data processing and equipped with array of flexible sensors and covers a large area, we have an emerging and innovative e technology called Smart skin. It uses the skin electronics which enables it to sense its surroundings through temperature, touch, proximity of the skin, chemical or biological, pressure sensors.
To make the unsupervised machines operate well among many obstacles, among people with unpredictable situations, unstructured surroundings, on faraway planets, undersea, on crowded streets, outdoors, etc. the devices with Sensitive skin are required. These are used to make the environment friendly to the device and to make the machine cautious.
To bring and widen the scale of the use of machines, sensing to human prosthetics I the industry, Smart skin can be used for elders, disabled helpers of building machines. Advanced revolution of the information is possible with the sensitive skin as it processes and produces massive data flow. To make the sensitive skin a real one, there are some issues such as research and art’s state, which need to be resolved.
Because of these issues, we can’t find many applications that are using these smart skins. To solve these issues and to develop various types of printers, displays, electronic products, electronic paper, maps and books that are upgradeable to share and store the information, there came the use of metal interconnectors, semiconductor films that are flexible in the sensitive skins and these all are done in an inexpensive manner.
For the applications that are to be used in the environment with the highest possibility of the exposure such as in active camouflage, defense, space exploration, in mine detection, etc. new concepts, aspects of the device need to be developed in it along with the use of new sensors with flexible semiconductor films of large area.
Because there are many studies, highly interdisciplinary researches of work on the smart kin is being taken place, there is a hope that all these areas will be well developed with the more innovative smart skins. This technology includes studies of various areas such as biotechnology, mechanical engineering, Nano and electronics, information technology, and material science. Though this is not an easy task to develop, it has gained its attention by many firms, research centers, developers. Hence, we can soon see these are used the most in different fields.
