Biometrics measure physical characteristics. It does three things match, scan and, recognize. It scans any body parts and then finds the identity of the citizen.
Let’s look at the future applications of the biometrics.
1. Smart cards
Smart cards can use biometrics either by using a biometrics sensor placed in the chip, around 145 million biometric cards would be used for payments in 2018. This biometric sensor will remove the usage of a PIN. The example of using biometrics sensor on a card is Aadhar card.
The growth of biometrics is slow. For authentication, some devices use ECG biometrics. Till now, the key use of wearable is for monitoring health. There will be a time where wearable will be mainly used for authentication also.
E-commerce has made doing shopping very effortlessly. Just sitting at home, we can order anything from things to services. But, e-commerce has also brought some threat. To log in to an account, we use a password and a mail id. Hackers can hack it easily. The system cannot recognize who the logger is. So, to make the system more protective biometrics technology is going to be introduced in this department in the future. The customers’ fingerprints, voice, palm patterns, will use.
4. Cloud-based biometrics
Cloud storage is growing very popular so; there is a security threat also. Cloud-based biometrics is a trending topic. Biometrics identify person rather than details on a plastic card. As more businesses are using cloud computing, the biometrics applications will increase.
5. Biometric payment- the retail sector
The retail industry is growing and, as the new technologies are coming to this industry is adapting itself to it. While making payments we use a password or PIN. This information can be hacked, and this would make the customer vulnerable. Usage of biometrics will reduce the use of remembering the password and pin and it will maintain more security.
6. Mobile banking
Now, we carry our bank in our pocket on our mobile phones. We do all our transactions through mobile phones. But there are many cases of net banking fraud also. So, to top the security, the biometrics in mobile banking is the best option. Many banks appreciate the biometrics, but some of them are apprehensive. This technology is still growing, and it’s going to be huge in the future.
7. Travel industry- business travel
Biometrics in the travel sector is a growing trend. Authentication with fingerprints, face recognition, etc. are the future. The aviation sector is investing in it. There is a scope for it in the future. Most of the travelers didn’t like to stand in the queue for the security check. Biometrics can play an excessive role here.
Hundreds and thousands of patients come to the hospital. Biometrics will help to verify patients and staff members. The all information about the patient will be in front of the employee with just a fingerprint, of race recognition or another method. The growth of biometrics in healthcare is slow, but the future is bright.
9. Automobile industry
The automobile industry is bringing biometrics to the cars. The biometrics in a car will not only give access to the owner but will also monitor his health. It will be in the form of voice or facial recognition, fingerprints, etc.
Biometrics is going big on the college campus. More colleges will start using this technology in the future. Students security will maintain through biometric authentication. With the help of biometrics, we can identify which program a student has taken.
