Hello all, I have to write a short book and I do not have a very good typing speed. So I was thinking if speech recognition could help me in this work? I am a Windows 7 user so can I just use the voice recognition software and teach it my voice and speech patterns so I can work in it? Will it be an easy task and should I do it? Let me know! Thanks!

Offcourse its a good idea to dictate your ideas to system. Windows 7 has an in-built feature for the same.

Follow the simple steps given below to dictate and to correct your mistakes as well if any:

  • Start>>All Programs>>Accessories>>Ease of Access>>Windows Speech recognition
  • Say Start listening or click the Microphone button
  • Open the program in which you want to type and start dictating.

For Corrections follow these steps:

  • For correcting the last thing you said Say "Correct that".
  • For correcting any single word Say "Correct" followed by the word.

Also explore the Speech dictionary to make it more convenient and start adding words that are relevant to you to make it more user friendly

Say "Speech dictionary" to open it.
