Hi,

I just finished creating a document that I needed for work, using Word 2007 on my laptop that runs with Windows XP. I put it on a CD and took it to work to print it there. When I tried to open the file this message appeared. I use the same system at work too. Why do you think this has happened?

Hi Pamela

The first thing you should do is to verify the version of your word file. File edited by word 2010 can't be open by word 2007 unless you install The Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word formats If your file has been edited on a version older than Word 2007, the only reason is a virus You should copy it again and verify that the flash disk is not infected

Thank you

Hi Pamela,

There are various reasons why the Word file is corrupted.

  • You mentioned that you store the document on a CD, or directly editing the document upon opening the file from the CD?

    • If yes, better save the file from the CD to your local folder than try to open again.
    • If no, you should properly save the file in the CD without disrupting any process like opening the CD ROM while you're saving the file into it.
  • You may have opened the file in a different computer and has been infected with the virus.
  • The images you inserted isn't supported in your work system. You might have inserted functionalities or images that have not yet modified in your work desktop.

As per recovery of your Word file, you may do the following.

  • Grab the back-up copy of your file from your home computer. If possible get the previous version or the uncorrupted file. To do this, select the folder where you have saved the file, right click then go to "Previous Versions" tab.
  • You should reinstall the Word software.
  • Changing the file extension. Example from ".doc" change it to ".docx" or the other way around.
  • Download and install the "Repair My Word". A repair recovery utility that helps every user that have corrupted Word file.

Hope this helps.
