Windows XP SP3 missing applications and programs

I recently formatted my PC from Windows XP SP1 and installed my new Windows XP SP3 I got from my fathers' office, as they were upgrading to Windows 7 now.

I then noticed missing applications like Windows Movie maker, Windows sound recorder, Paintbrush, etc.

Which I often use.

Why is this so?

Hi,

I think you used a bootable disk of windows XP sp3 which is not a proper windows XP sp3 or may be it is not a full version of windows XP sp3. There are many edited version of windows XP sp3 bootable disk in the market. You should not use them. They create this type of problem. So you need to collect a real windows XP sp3 bootable disk which is a full version of windows XP sp3.

Other option is to install that windows XP sp3 in other drive. If you’re previous windows XP sp2 was in C drive then install windows XP sp3 in D, E, F or any other drive.

Firstly examine if there is any of your xp cd’s have mspaint.exe,sndrec32.exe etc. in X: \i386\ (where X is for  your CD ROM Drive.)
Then go through the following path:
‘Start’ → ‘Control Panel’ → ‘Add or Remove Programs’ → ‘Add/Remove Windows Components’ → ‘Windows Component Wizard’ → ‘Accessories and Utilities’ → details.
Another window opens here. Select ‘Accessories’ → details.
˃˃ Be confirmed that ‘ACCESSORIES’ & ‘GAMES’ have a check mark by each one you want. HIGHLIGHTING each category, you see which items are checked or not. Choose those items you desire or just check them all if you are not sure. Check them & select okay. If there is no check mark, uncheck it then check it again and okay them (it will force to reload the shortcut again).
˃˃ Select ‘ok’ in the next window → ‘okay’ → ‘Next’. This will start to load your settings and may want your xp disk that contains mspaint.exe,sndrec32.exe etc files.
˃˃ Select ‘Finish’ when completes.
This should put your ACCESSORIES (Windows Movie maker, Windows sound recorder, Paintbrush.)
˃˃ You can find & test these through the following path:
‘Start’ → ‘All Programs’ → Accessories. Then locate & select the program if you  wish.

Windows XP SP3 missing applications and programs

Hello Gianunabia,

Well, the thing here may be that the programs that you have mentioned have different names in windows XP sp3 or they have been removed for some valid reason hence you will need to get applications that perform the same functions as them and install as independent applications on your computer.

Otherwise, instead of the XP SP3, I will recommend that you also go for windows in which you find these applications with even better features which will provide you with better functionality compared to the ones you are experiencing in XP.
