Hello Paul Mack,

So are trying to install windows xp on a computer that currently has a windows 98 operating system. From the screenshots you have posted above, the first thing that is the possible cause of the problem is that you are trying to execute the windows installation in a wrong, by running it in an open windows 98 operating system. So I will advice that you insert the disc that has the windows xp setup and then restart the computer and then choose the option for booting from the CD drive, so as to start the installation.

Another possible reason for the occurrence of that problem could be that the windows xp is not compatible with the system specifications of your computer.

You need to check that you have a valid copy of your window, and you are using a valid source to install your window. You computer system requirements are complete, and you are using the best options to install your window. I mean that you have installed the windows properly. You need to check you disk also in this case if you disk contain some error then try to solve this problem and then you will be able to solve your problem.

Run your window in safe mode and make sure that you have no corrupt files in your window as I tell you earlier that if you have installed your window form a network source and it is not a valid version then you need to make sure that it doesn't contain errors. May be there is some fault in your CD you are using to install your window or you have a non valid window copy which you are trying to install. In this case check this copy of the window on another computer if available and make sure that you have a valid copy of the windows.
