This kind of behavior on a computer when displaying icons on the desktop is often influenced by the total fragmentation of your hard drive.

If a file is heavily fragmented, the computer sometimes has a hard time displaying its icon if it contains its own icon.

You can check the heavily fragmented files in your computer by launching the disk defragmenter.

  1. Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools.
  2. Click Disk Defragmenter.
  3. Select drive C on the available drives then click Analyze.
  4. Click View Report.
  5. Click Close when done.

The report will display the files that are heavily fragmented on drive C. It is possible that your hard drive is heavily fragmented that’s why your computer exhibits sudden slowness in displaying the desktop icons.

Try defragmenting your computer. It might just do the trick.

There is no difference between the icons of an offline game and an online game. All of the files that are needed to launch the game are stored on your computer.

The icon of the game that appears in the desktop is stored on the main executable file of the game.
