Windows Media Player no dvd decoder

Hey there. My friend let me borrow her favorite DVD and I was so excited to watch it as well. Well, I was kind of upset seeing that I am seeing an error and cannot have it play.

The error says No DVD Decoder and I do not know what to do. Please don’t call me stupid, but other than browsing the net, playing games, and doing documentation, I do not do techy stuffs like researching and doing the resolving these kind of issues.

But, if somebody can tell me what to do, or let me know what process to take in fixing this, I would be more than happy to do so.

Hi Sophia,

If you are getting an error that you cannot play a certain type of video (or audio) file, it means that your Windows Media Player is not updated with the latest codec – or what you call a decoder.

There are free utilities on the web that you can download to update your player. The best I have used so far is the K-Lite Codec Pack from http://www.free-codecs.com//www.free-codecs.com/download/k_lite_codec_pack.htm. Always check and download the latest version to be sure that you can play the video/audio files you want.

Keep in mind that sooner or later though you have to check if there are new versions to keep your player updated.

First of all you need codecs to play DVD in windows mediaplayer you can find codecs by going to Microsoft site or try http://download.cnet.com/windows/ and search there media player codecs but if you want see easily just install good media player like VLC player http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

There are lots and lots of players out there which you just download install them try again searching players in the site I mentioned and most of them are free.
