Hello,

I have a Windows Live ID that I have been using on forums but I can’t seem to log in to Windows Live Messenger. All attempts pop up an error as shown below. Please help.

We can’t sign you in to Windows Live Messenger. Please try again later. Click Troubleshoot to try and fix the problem.

Error code 80048439 points to MSN Server problem. To solve this problem you have to follow these steps.

  1. Check date and time in your computer, it should be correct.
  2. You could also try logging in by changing your password.
  3. Check firewall settings, some firewall installation cut down MSN access to internet. Add MSN to list of programs that have access to the internet.
  4. Reset proxy server settings. In the IE page toolbar Go to Tools → Internet options →Connection tabs → LAN settings → Uncheck the “use a proxy server for LAN” → OK.
  5. Register DLL in the library. Click Start button → Run → In the open tab Enter “regsvr32 softpub.dll” → Ok.
