Windows keep on saying it needs to be updated

I have a recurring Windows update for 3 months. It keeps on saying that an update needs to be installed every time I run WSUS, even though it says that it has been successfully installed. It is an SQL service pack 4 update (KB2463332). I tried rebooting it many times even without any startup programs or non-Windows services. I tried searching for solutions, but those that I found only works for Windows Vista or 7, and not on Server 2008, plus they are meant for web-based updates rather than WSUS. Help!

Hi Aria,

I know that this is very annoying and can make you become impatient. It might be that you installed the updates but one or more were not installed, you might not be able to know the problem manually. What to do in this case is to run troubleshooting to get to automatically fix the problem with your update. To open the windows trouble shooter click the start button and then click the control panel. In the search box just type troubleshooter then click troubleshooting. Under systems and securities click fix problem with windows update. I hope this will help you sort your problem.

Hello,

In your case windows keeps on saying it needs to be updated fo SQL service pack 4. So, you should uninstall the pack and try installing it again. If the problem persists, then try to install a lower version of SQL service pack. I think this will remove your update problem and if the problem still persists, then you have to reinstall your windows or try for a repair. If you doesn't want to reinstall then you should try System Restore. You should restore your PC to an earlier point.

Hope this helps you out

If this error keeps happening, try this workaround. First, make sure SQL Service Pack 4 update is installed. After this, try to reset Windows Update Components manually. Press the Windows key then type without quotes “cmd” in the search field. Right-click “cmd.exe” in the search results then select “Run as administrator” to launch an elevated command prompt.

In the command prompt window, type the following commands then hit Enter after each command:

net stop wuauserv
net stop bits
net stop cryptsvc
net stop msiserver
ren %systemroot%\System32\Catroot2 Catroot2.old
ren %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
net start wuauserv
net start bits
net start cryptsvc
net start msiserver

When you are finished, try updating again then see if it works.
