I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate, and after I installed a gadget from the Windows Live Desktop Gadget Gallery,

The entire gadgets platform stopped working and the following error message was displayed:

"Windows Desktop Gadgets has stopped working".

Any solution?

Thanks!

Hi Brayan,

I’m not sure if your windows 7 is a 64-bit or a 32-bit but try these steps:

  •  Try to check if the gadget you downloaded is for 32-bit or for 64-bit Operating System.
  •  Check your computer if it’s a 32-bit or a 64-bit Operating System. To check, right click computer and go to properties.
  •  Try installing the 32 or the 64 bit gadget and check. If both won’t work, check the UAC (User Account Control).  To check follow the steps:

1. Go to start, type “regedit” on the search bar and press “enter”

2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionSidebarSettings

3. Add a new DWORD Value called AllowElevatedProcess, and set the value to 1.

4. Restart the computer to apply the changes and then check.

If nothing works, do the system file checker. To do it, go to start, type “cmd” on the search bar. You have to run the cmd as administrator and then type SFC /scannow followed by enter and it will scan the system files.
