Windows could not start the Lync Server Front End

If you are using Microsoft Lync Server 2013, this issue may happen where the Lync Server 2013 Front End service [RTCSRV] doesn’t start when deploying Microsoft Lync Server 2013 on a computer running on Microsoft Windows Server 2012. This problem happens because of a certificate that is not self-signed and got installed in the Trusted Root Certification Authorities store.

This is a wrong configuration that may lead to HTTP communication among Lync servers to fail throwing an untrusted root certificate error. To fix this if you are using group policies in deploying certificates, make sure the Trusted Root Certification Authorities store contains only self-signed certificates. A self-signed certificate is a certificate where the certificate property “Subject” is similar with the certificate property “Issuer”.

If there are certificates in the Trusted Root Certification Authorities store that are not self-signed, move or transfer them to the Intermediate Certification Authorities store.
