Wi-Fi connection troubles using Linksys router

Does anyone out there know how to fix a Linksys router?

The reason for asking this is because I have a problem with the connection of my Wi-Fi devices to the internet. My laptop displays that there is a Wi-Fi but the moment I try to connect to the net it fails. The router seems okay as everything is intact the way it should be. I have been unable to figure this out on my own and I am now looking for anyone to help me correct this situation.

You may need to check a couple of things. Please try to do the steps below:

·         Try to connect directly using a local area network cable. if you are able to connect then do next step.

·         Try to check on your Device Manager if the wireless adapter is enabled and activated. You can do this by Start > Settings > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > Network Adapters. There is some wireless card that has their own built in wireless card manager. You may try to find your manager and see if you can manipulate the connection there.

·         You can try to call your broadband provider and advise them if usage of a router is allowed. They may need to open a port on their servers for the access.

Make sure your network key is correct and make sure that your network is not experiencing a lot of interference from your neighbor’s wireless connections by setting your network’s channel to a specific channel. Also make sure that your operating system supports the encryption being used by the network. Windows XP needs to have an update installed or be updated to Windows XP Service Pack 3 to be able to connect to WPA or WPA2 encrypted networks. You also need to make sure that the security settings are supported by your wireless adapter otherwise you really won’t  be able to connect.

After checking the device manager, I found out that my network adapters are not installed correctly. I have no choice but to download the latest driver compatible with my laptop. Now, I can detect wifi connections. Thanks Aristono Martin.
