Why Windows Media Center still working even it was disabled?

I have this error message whenever I played Guild Wars and exited the game.

See the below message from windows media center.

Error:

Windows cannot open this program because it has been prevented by a software restriction policy. For more information contact your system administrator.

The error only occurs when I play Guild Wars but my other entire games work fine. Also could anyone tell me why windows media center would even attempt to open?

I have disabled windows media center completely (or at least I thought I did) via services and thru default programs. My laptop runs fine, but that error message is getting annoying.

How can I solve this problem?

The solution is to go to the policy of your computer. The software has a restriction policy set by the administrator of the computer.  You can try to solve the problem by following these simple steps.

 

  1. Click Start, then Default Programs.
  2. Click “set program access and computer defaults” (at the bottom)
  3. Then you can see three options, Microsoft windows, Non-Microsoft, Custom. Choose Custom.

 

If you want to disabled your windows media center just go to you computer registry, HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwarePoliciesMicrosoftWindowsMediaCenter. Change the value of DWORD there to 1.

Please be inform that some this error occurs because of some viruses that edit you registry. Try also to scan your system with anti virus.
