I have my windows 95 desktop folder windows set for 'no toolbar' and 'large icons'. However when i open a folder the toolbar is always present and the icons tend to be small. Every time i change the settings to the above it keeps reverting back to the opposite. Thank you for your help, much appreciated

We might have an outdated software installed here. Since you are using Windows 98, most likely you have the older version of browser.

At this point, I have no work around on this but I suggest to keep it that way. Now-a-days, older browser is no longer supported by most of the websites on the Internet. Even though, this will be fix, you'll still encountered problem when browsing.

You can try to reset the browser though back to it's original settings. Go to Tools, Internet Options, Advanced tab. Restore the settings and click on the reset button.

This clear all possible browser issue and try it once again. This steps may work but it's not guaranteed. I haven't tried this steps for years. So, doing it now and testing the steps is no longer possible because I don't no longer have this type of version.
