Is the law suit still pending in the California and Texas courts? I heard that Google has settled Rockstar for its Patent Case. Has Google or Rockstar disclosed the terms of settlement? Does anyone know the real facts of these legal suits? Kindly share your views on the same which will be appreciable.

Why did Google settle for the patent squabble with Rockstar?

The lawsuit between Rockstar and Google started roughly 1 year ago when the Rockstar Consortium filed a case for patent infringement against Google and several other Android phone manufacturers in the Eastern District of Texas. The Rockstar Consortium is composed of Microsoft, Sony, Apple, Ericsson, and BlackBerry. These are the companies who purchased a pile of patents from Nortel which are associated to internet technology and telephony.

According to the recent status of the case, the recent court filing made by Google shows that the argument has been settled and that the 2 wants to dismiss the case. But the court filing made by Google doesn’t mean that they won the case. It is certain that they’ll be paying out a heavy settlement.

Earlier this November, Cisco settled $188 million with Rockstar. After Google has made a settlement with Rockstar, it is not clear if the latter will also settle with any of the other Android handset manufacturers.
