I have recently purchased a head phone for my iPod, but to my disappointment, the iPod doesn't support headphone. Searching over Internet, I found out that, there are two kinds of headphones, one having black and other having white rings on its 3.5mm pin, can you distinguish their functionality and usage?

Even if the Apple iPod says that it supports 3.5-millimeter jack, it doesn’t mean that you can use any other jack in it. This is the same as with the 3.5-millimeter jack in a Smartphone. My cousin has a Sony Xperia Smartphone and of course it supports 3.5-millimeter jack. He tried inserting my earphone since it fits the port.

But unfortunately, it doesn’t work on the first try. When he tried pressing on the jack a little bit, it worked. But still, it needs a little pressing to make it work which is not the case if using a compatible headphone on the handset. In your case, just buy a compatible headphone for your iPod.

You can try the Apple EarPods with Remote and Mic which costs around $30. It has a 1 year limited warranty.
