Hello Guys,

While upgrading firmware ios 5.0.1 on my iTunes, I received an error report. It is indicating the error code 1601/1602. I do not know the reason behind it. Have you any idea for the error code?

Please help me to solve the problem.

Hi there James.

The error you are encountering when trying to upgrade is common if the installation of your iTunes is corrupted. The easiest solution to this would be to reinstall iTunes.

By removing the program completely and reinstalling it will remove any corrupted file or instances that may be causing the problem you are encountering.

To remove iTunes from a Windows PC:

  • Click Start
  • Go to Control Panel
  • Click Add/Remove Programs
  • Remove Apple iTunes and Apple mobile devices support
  • Browse the directory where these programs are located and delete the folders
  • Download the latest version of iTunes and reinstall it on your computer

If you are updating the firmware of an iOS device and you receive error codes “1601” and “1602,” the problem has something to do with your device’s USB connection with your computer. First, make sure you are using the latest version of iTunes. If you haven’t updated yet, download the latest iTunes and install it.

Once iTunes is updated, try updating your device again and see if it works. If it doesn’t work, transfer your USB cable to a different USB port and try again. A normal computer comes with four USB ports by default. A desktop computer sometimes has more than four USB ports but a laptop has only four USB ports.

If it doesn’t work on one USB port, transfer your USB cable to another USB port. If the problem continues, make sure your USB cable is working. Use the USB cable that came with your device. Also, try disabling your antivirus, internet security, or firewall temporarily and try updating again.
