Hi Jerin449,

The two come with their good and bad qualities. GSM has got some disadvantages wherein call quality is involved, although GSM can be easily applied and incorporated straight into already present technologies. On the other hand, CDMA can be a little challenging to do so.

According CDG.org, CDMA networks provide service to more than 270 million customers throughout the world, meanwhile GSM.org counts up their figures to well over 1 billion. Therefore, GSM continues to hold the upper hand.

CDMA wasn't subjected to testing for commercial purposes until 1991, then it was introduced commercially in Hong Kong in 1995. CDMA technology is presently utilized by leading mobile phone service providers within the US such as Sprint's Personal Communications System (PCS), Verizon and GTE.

CDMA Pros:

  • Higher wireless communications safety measures.
  • Multiple conversations.
  • Greater efficiency, which enable service providers to cater for much more subscribers.
  • More compact mobile phones.
  • Reduced power demands and minimal network coordination necessary for providers.
  • Widened access which is favorable to countryside clients located a long way from network towers.

Cons of CDMA :

  • Because of its exclusive nature, virtually all of CDMA's weaknesses are actually unknown to the engineering community.
  • CDMA is fairly new, and the actual system is not really as old as GSM.
  • CDMA cannot really provide worldwide roaming service, which is actually a substantial GSM convenience.

Merely two years prior to CDMA's launch in Hong Kong, European mobile phone service providers and manufacturers decided to cater the first readily available digital technological innovation – Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA), in which GSM utilizes for its basic science. Since the vast majority of the now necessary wireless end users are in European countries and Asian countries, GSM has become the global leader in mobile phone technology.

GSM Pros:

  • GSM is right now being used around the globe having more than four hundred and fifty million subscribers.
  • International roaming makes it possible for subscribers make use of a single mobile phone all through Western Europe and the rest of the world where applicable. CDMA phones would certainly operate around some parts of Asia, though not France, Germany, U.K. as well as various other favorite European countries.
  • GSM began in the mid-80's, which means a much more dependable network system with sturdy features.
  • The availability of Subscriber Identity Modules (SIM) provide GSM m-commerce positive aspects.

Cons of GSM:

  • Deficiency of access to the growing American market.
