PSD is an Adobe Photoshop specific extensions used to save files that should be used in one of the Adobe Creative Suite components. You can eventually try opening and editing PSD files using GIMP editor, but I wouldn't suggest you to do so as it can mess up your PSD document badly, just as any other editors that are able to open PSD files.

Photoshop is available for Mac OSx just as for the Windows platform and I would suggest you to either convert your files to something less specific than PSD or to stick with Photoshop on your MAC OSx.
