I just bought a new Lacie 500 GB USB external hard drive and I notice something peculiar on it’s behavior. Sometimes, when I turned it on, it started blinking and producing a clicking sound which is so unusual to me. Is there such thing as lacie diagnostic software that could allow me to check the hard drive for any damage or deficiency?
Where can I find lacie diagnostic software?
I don't think there is a Lacie Diagnostic Software available. However, if you are using windows, there is a tool called Device Manager. It shows you all the connected devices on your computer. This tool allows you to view information about failures in your device and provides some troubleshooting tips but it doesn't give you the cause of the problem.
To access the Device Manager program, click on the Start button and choose Run. Then type devmgmt.msc
A possible cause of the 'clicking' sound is your USB port might be loose.
