How to speed up my PC system and programs?

What can I do to make my computer start faster? It takes two to three minutes. It used to take, about twenty seconds before. I leave it on, all the time now and just put it in hibernated mode so I don't have to wait. However, even this has become slow. Any suggestions would be most helpful!

Hi Axle,

The reason, you may experiencing this issue is because you may have too many programs loading during your startup phase. This can take a considerable amount of time. Most software programs install their particular software in your start up files, to enable their program to start when the system is booted. This is an option of choice and you can tweak that.

1. Select the Windows Icon on the task bar.
2. In the search programs and file field, type "run" without the quotes and hit enter.
3. They will bring up the "run" Windows.
4. In the open field, type "msconfig" without the quotes, then select OK
This will bring up your system configuration file.

In the top tab area, select startup.

This area will show you all your start-up files when you boot your system to Windows.

TIP: Some files are critical for start-up, however, some are not.

For example: Google Chrome. You do not have to have Chrome in your startup folder.

Proceed to Click the checkmark within the box, for that program, this will disable that particular program from loading during start-up. If you wish to run this program, all you have to do is select the icon on your desktop or folder.

Example number 2:
Evernote is another program that does not have to be loaded in your started up files, during the initial boot phase.

Once again, in the box, select the check mark and it will be disabled, then select apply. This program will no longer be enabled during your boot process. When finished it is imperative that you close the system configuration, window. The next time your start-up Windows, it should be a little faster. Hope this helps!

Also, you can select the Win 7 icon and in the search program files, type msconfig, and this will bring it up as well. If your really technical, you can also use the DOS prompt by typing dos in the search program files and at the command line type msconfig and it will bring up the system configuration window. This is how it was done in Win 98 or what your having issues and unable to use the search program files, option.

I also would like to mention, when you install a new software, a question will pop up and ask if you would like this program to be placed in your start-up folder.

I would suggest you select no, unless you would like that program to start up during the initial boot.

That's fantastic and what we like to hear. Please, be careful of those other files. They could potentially cause disaster on your boot.ini files.
