What is wrong with my laptop??

I have had my advent laptop for 2 years now and ever since I purchased it I have had nothing but problems with It. The problem which concerns me the most is how slow it runs. I have done the usual things to maintain sufficient memory to allow the laptop to perform faster, I have defragged it, I have purchased an external hard drive and I have even purchased dodgy software which promises to cure the problem but not much changes.

I don't download a lot of music or movies I only use the laptop for emails, Facebook and work. Is there anyone out there who can save me and my very slow but young laptop? Your help is much appreciated.

I ask the same question from myself because I have a core i3 laptop and it is not up to what i was expecting from this machine. The least things I would suggest you to do are:

  1. Perform a clean and fresh installation of the windows from a trusted CD or DVD that does not have any kind of viruses in it.
  2. Just after the installation, download the CCleaner and ESET NOD32 Antivirus from anywhere and install them.
  3. Turn on the protection to full in the ESET and keep running the CCleaner once a week.
  4. Stop updating your windows as it mingles up a lot of things in your system.
  5. Keep doing defragmentation as well as error checking.
  6. Change the SATA cables of your hard disk if you can.

You may have an operating system corruption which can be corrected by reinstalling Windows. Also make sure you maintain the Windows installation and make sure you do not install pirated software or any illegal codes on your installation. That can create backdoors on your system which can make it slower since other people will be using it and its bandwidth without your knowledge.

Also make sure all the RAM installed are working by checking the total RAM being detected by the system. Run some hardware diagnostics as well to make sure all the hardware is working and not causing the slow down.
