Ok this is a dumb question, but I also need to know why. Every time we make changes on your Desktop or somewhere else, then we are right click to refresh. The question is every time we click on Refresh can indeed make a computer so fresh? Why people would turn on the computer every reloading?  I think it's just for updating the refresh icon in Windows Explorer.

Actually our computer is a machine. And all the parts of a machine needs to be refreshed after some time. To recharge a machine with power or information is termed as refresh or sometimes reload. When we make changes in our computer memory then to see such changes we have to click the refresh button because we make changes in computer's memory but not on the desktop.

So in order to see such changes we have to refresh the computer's memory. Generally we use refresh button to update something with new data. Even you yourself needs to be refreshed other wise you are also unable to do any kind of work.

Hope you find my answer satisfactory.

Good day to you Carrington!

One thing for sure, people do hit the refresh button thinking that it actually makes the computer faster somehow which in fact is not what most people think.

The refresh button’s function is to display items that haven’t appeared yet because your computer is processing data a lot slower than it’s supposed to, or it hasn’t displayed the item you wanted to appear. Just like when you install software or a program. You specified in the installation process to create a desktop icon but as soon as the installation has been completed, you don’t see an icon for the program. First thing that comes to mind is to hit the refresh button. This command actually tells the computer to redisplay the page or desktop or any location in your system.

Hello!

This question is not dumb at all. Its been really quite a practice or hopefully  just some kind of mannerism developed in computer users of doing a right click on desktop and clicking on refresh for any reason they have.

Clicking refresh on the desktop does not make the computer fresh or even make it faster. It really just updates any small changes made in you computer. Changes that you do not see or does not apply right away. All that it does is to re-read the desktop folder checking if there are any new or deleted files. Then  it re-evaluates which icons should appear on your desktop.

Other big changes in the computer really requires a reboot process such as software installations and uninstalling a program. For example, you install a security software. After the installation, it's asking to reboot the computer so changes may apply. Same thing goes with uninstalling a program in add/remove programs.

Hope this clears out the confusion.

Regards
