Hi Benjamin,

Linux is an operating system that can be used on computers and servers. It is a free open source operating system and it comes in various distributions, for instance opens use, redhat, fedora, Linux mint, debian and many others. So instead of using windows which you need to purchase, you can decide to use any Linux distribution which can be readily downloaded online. You just need to Google whichever distribution you may want then download it. Linux has got advantages over windows in that it is not affected by viruses, is free and has high performance.

Linux can be used by computers on a network, although I will not say you necessarily have to use it, but you can decide to do some cost-benefit analysis and see which one works best for you between windows and Linux.

Hope this helps.

Regards

Lee Hung.

Hi Benjamen,

Linux is a type of operating system which came from unix system. Linux is an alternative open source operating system for those who do not want to use Microsoft Windows operating system.

Since Linux is an operating system, definitely it is capable for computer networking just like the Microsoft Windows.Linux and Microsoft Windows are the same in terms of functionality and purposes, but they are different in interface and file format.
