Hello Friends,

I got an interesting question in my mind. When we try DVD convert to CD format, that is a 4 GB DVD to a 700 MB CD, how can we ensure that the quality of the video is retained. Does anybody know about the compression technique that is used?

Hello Stephen,

This is one interesting question you got. The compression technique that is used while compressing a 4GB DVD to fit into a 700MB CD is the ‘Lossy compression technique’ in which the non essential data is dropped (For example, non-audible components from audio and parts of images/videos that are beyond the viewing scope of the human eye are dropped) hence saving storage space. Since the data being dropped is non essential in nature hence the quality of data in the compressed version remains intact. This is an overview of what happens while compression, for more detailed and technical description you can dig the internet anytime.
