What is Google going to provide in the field of searching?
There is a lot whole bunch of opportunities or more probably, features, to the desktop searchers. For instance, you may use Google Drive Apps so that you may use it from anywhere, anytime.
You can also store your favorite shots taken with friends and family over Google+ Cloud automatically.
Further, you may take participation in a Meeting Online with a Google Hangouts, in a pure real time way. Google just made possibilities endless, all you need is to, Google.

I think what you mean by new opportunities from Google is the application called “Google Desktop”. It’s a cross-platform application developed by Google which supports Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux operating systems. Its main function is to do text searches on the computer for email messages, music files, viewed web pages, pictures, chats as well as different computer files stored in the hard drive. It also displays a Sidebar on the desktop showing Google Gadgets.
But in September 14 of 2011, they announced that they will be discontinuing the development and future updates of the software. The reason for this is the introduction of cloud-based services. They said that most of the users are now shifting from local storage to cloud-based storage.
