What else should I do to upgrade my computer?

I assembled a computer and installed 32 bit Windows7 ultimate.

Even if it shows some driver problem, it works smoothly. My RAM is only 1GB. As a programmer I’m using VB and action script. Virtual memory is 4 GB Ready Boost.

Do I have to add more RAM or is it enough?

Hello Marcelito,

Although 1 GB may good enough to provide reasonable speeds for the functions you are using the computer for, which are programming and design, to make it even faster you may want to upgrade the RAM to up to 4 GB. This will save you the trouble of the computer slowing down in case you might need to install additional programs later.

But with the few programs that you have installed right now, the computer is good enough to offer better speeds for the time being. But in case you will need to do some gaming or watch a movie during your break time, then you will need to upgrade to 4 GB or more for it to support well those functions.

Hope this helps.

You computer only passes the bare minimum specification for memory required by Windows 7. If you max out the 1GB RAM that you have (which most likely isn’t going to be hard to do), you will experience and notice your computer performing very slowly. If you have multiple programs running at a time, this will take your computer to a crawl even if you have a 4GB pen drive memory. This is not as fast as the regular memory. I suggested you instead upgrade your memory to about 4GB. Memory modules are cheap now. The performance boost it would add to your system should offset the cost of upgrading since you will be able to multitask more effectively and finish your work faster.

That 1 GB RAM for Microsoft Windows 7 is kind of low. This is the minimum amount of RAM required to run this operating system that is for the 32-bit version.

To use Microsoft Windows 7, it requires 1 GHz or faster processor, 1 GB RAM for 32-bit and 2 GB RAM for 64-bit, 16 GB free space for 32-bit and 20 GB for 64-bit, and Microsoft DirectX 9-compatible video card with WDDM 1.0 driver or higher. Since this is the minimum memory required, installing and using other software will give you a slow performance.

Even if you have 4 GB of virtual memory, the system will still be slow in performance because the virtual memory is using the hard drive to store data. Data access is much faster with an actual RAM module than with a hard drive. You also won’t be able to install games and applications with that amount of memory you have.
