The binary number system was first invented around 1679 by scientist Gottfried Leibniz. 
In our decimal number system we have 10 elementary symbols, 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9. Binary number system has only two primary elements 0 and 1. In other words, yes and no. This system can be used in any aspect wherever decimal or other number systems are used. For example, some representations of decimal numbers in binary is shown.
Decimal Binary

1 1
2 10
3 11
4 100
5 101
6 110
7 111
8 1000
9 1001
10 1010
11 1011
 
Thus any number in decimal can be represented in binary.
The binary system is best utilized in digital systems as there are distinctly available two states in electronics, namely ON and OFF.  We may consider 1 as ON and 0 as OFF (considering flow of current).
Information technology student will come across digital binary concepts in almost all aspects.

The binary number, in computer science and mathematics, is a base-2 numeral system or simply binary numeral system that is represented by two numeric values or symbols, 0 and 1. The binary system is applied internally by roughly all modern computers and or computer-based devices like the mobile phones or Smartphones because of its uncomplicated application in digital electronic circuitry by means of logic gates.

The first known account of binary numeral system was by Pingala, an Indian scholar about 5th – 2nd centuries BC, who developed mathematical ideas for describing prosody. He presents binary numbers in the form of long and short syllables. The long syllable is equivalent to two short syllables which is a lot similar to Morse code.

What a huge knowledge you have presented. The binary number system invented 1679 by scientist Gottfried Leibniz, Binary easily used for reviewing higher level reasoning, serious thinking, and logic skills more dependable than other selected-response items which are difficult for students and efficient for teachers. As a technology student the binary system was obviously one of the mathematical systems I had to learn. You guys make my head hurt, I don`t acquire it at all, as well as I believe myself to be above average intelligence. I in fact don`t understand at all. I am self-taught, which I am thankful for, as I didn`t have a liberal ideology burned into my head. But I will keep visiting up on this; it is actually interesting to me. To Sharath, you are providing a brief definition about the binary and provide a simple way to understand a lot of things. Thanks guys for stretched your hand in helping me. I really appreciated, indeed so many information helps me to enrich my knowledge.
