'Cookies' is the word which I have been listening and nodding my head about it for a year but I never knew what it is and what does it do on a computer? Hopefully, I have up to now known that cookies are related to networking and browsing and nothing else. Could anyone help me about the functions of the cookies on a computer and the disability of a computer in the absence of cookies. Are there cookies in all browsers?

A Cookie is a small text file that gets stored on your computer’s web browser while browsing websites.  If you visit a website that uses cookies for the first time, this website will download a Cookie onto your computer.  When you visit the same website again, your computer will check to see if it has a Cookie that is relevant to that website, and will send the information that was saved in that Cookie back to the website.  This makes navigating that website much quicker and easier.

If you disable Cookies on your browsers, (all browsers store cookies) then you will need to complete the same data you might have entered before on that website, e.g. passwords, log-in name, preferences for certain websites etc. Also, some website use interactive features on their websites, and if cookies aren’t enabled, you won’t be able to use all these interactive features.
