What’s the difference?

Lotus has more supported platforms than Outlook.  Lotus supports Windows 2003, AIX, Linux (Intel) Linux (System Z), i5/OS, z/OS and Sun Solaris.  Outlook only supports 64 bit Windows Platform.

Lotus offers email, calendaring, instant messaging, web browsing, contacts and other tools while Outlook only offers email and messaging solution.

The “pros” of Lotus notes:
Secure environment
Domino Server and Tech Support are reliable
You can access emails remotely
Creates databases for  workflow management.
Offers email encryption for security

The “cons:”
Sometimes the system is slow
Navigation is tricky; complicated menus and interface
Technical support is needed if you will make any changes on the email users, creation of a workgroup, or any changes.
Lotus Notes and Domino has to be backed up consistently for optimal processing.

The “pros” of Microsoft Outlook:
Interface is user-friendly and offers easier synching with mobile devices
Has an integrated search function
Sent and Received messages can be stored for a long period of time
You can set up multiple email addresses in one platform
Can support POP, IMAP and HTTP based email providers.
Has a spam filter

The “cons:”
Cost is a little high and some additional applications need to be bought first
Security is not that secure; does not provide encryption
Does not support virtualization
Maintenance is time-consuming

Hi there user:

This is a quite but notable difference of Lotus to Outlook. A much better, and much easier I’d guess. Lotus is a server, which provides integrated collaboration functionality. It includes email, calendaring, tracking, messaging, contacts and more good on, accessing to other application. It can be also collaborated to voice and video conferencing, via online meeting and discussions, and most of all file-sharing. Generally, it speed-up the work flow in a much better seats.

Thank you for posting.
